A couple of storm systems are expected to develop Friday across the nation, the strongest one to move into the Northern Plains from central Canada.

It will re-enforce cold air for much of the East and drop snow in the Northern Plains, upper Midwest and Northern Rockies.

Another storm system is set to move onto the West Coast, grazing coastal areas of Northern California and southern Oregon and providing little rain. It will be nothing like the major storms that pounded the region a few days ago.

Cold air flowing across some of the Great Lakes will cause lake-effect snow mainly in western New England but also in Michigan. Frigid air will remain entrenched in the Northeast while the South will remain dry.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of minus 30 degrees at International Falls, Minn., to a high of 85 degrees at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
