Wet weather was to turn much of the Northeast soggy Thursday, while high pressure kept the Southwest and nation's midsection dry and warm.
Scattered showers and chilly air were forecast for the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast. The Appalachians and mid-Atlantic states were to escape the rain.
Sunny skies and mild conditions were forecast for the Plains, with temperatures to reach into the 60s in the northern Plains, and into the 80s in the southern Plains. Overnight lows were to drop near freezing and a frost advisory had been issued for some areas in the north.
In the Southeast, a cold front was to finally leave the region, allowing for sunny skies and warm weather with highs approaching the 80s. A red flag fire warning had been issued for many areas.
In the West, scattered showers were expected along the coastal regions of the Pacific Northwest and into northern California. Cooler temperatures and partly cloudy skies were expected in most of the West Coast.
