By WEATHER UNDERGROUND

Tropical Storm Cristobal was expected to continue to move northeastward along the eastern seaboard on Sunday, possibly making landfall over the Outer Banks of North Carolina. In any case, it was to produce much-needed precipitation over the Southeast.

The middle part of the country was to remain mostly dry, although showers and thunderstorms were expected from the Middle Mississippi Valley through the Northeast.

In the Southwest, abundant monsoonal moisture was expected. Widespread and significant showers and thunderstorms were possible throughout the Southwest and into the Great Basin. Some precipitation was to move into Southern California.

Coastal clouds on the West Coast were to keep coastal regions mild.

The Southeast and Southern Plains were to rise into the 90s and some 100s, while the Northeast was to see temperatures in the 80s. The Southwest was to be oppressive, with heat well into the 100s and very high humidity, while much of the rest of the West was to be in the 80s and 90s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Saturday ranged from a low of 25 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 121 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
