Snow and freezing rain was expected before a storm moves out of New England Saturday morning, leaving strong winds behind. Freezing temperatures also were expected in parts of the Southeast.

On the opposite coast, a low pressure system that brought rain and snow to central California was expected to glide southeast into the southern half of the state. Rain and high elevation snow was possible, and travel on highways could be difficult.

In Washington state, rain and high elevation snow was predicted in the northern Cascades.

In the Southeast, a large high pressure system was expected to keep much of the region dry. However, pockets of freezing temperatures were predicted.

Temperatures in the Northeast were forecast to rise into the 30s and 40s, while the Southeast was likely to see temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 60s and 70s, while the Southwest will see temperatures in the 40s, 50s and 60s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of 1 degree at Gunnison County, Colo., to a high of 83 degrees at East Mesa, Ariz.
