Most of the East was to see wet weather on Wednesday as showers stretched from New England to the Great Lakes and south to the Appalachians. Sun covered much of the Plains and West.
The worst of the East's showers and thunderstorms was forecast for New England, with a chance of hail and damaging winds. Temperatures were to remain in the 50s and 60s.
In the South, showers and thunderstorms were expected across the southern tip of Florida, but the storms were not expected to turn severe. Temperatures were to reach into the 90s.
In the northern Plains, cooler air was to push in from the north, making for cooler temperatures and sunny skies. Temperatures in the northern Plains were expected to be in the 50s, while the Southern Plains was to see highs in the upper 80s.
In the West, scattered clouds with showers were likely in the higher elevations of the Pacific Northwest and northern California. Temperatures were to range around the 70s and 80s. Dry and warm conditions were predicted for the Southwest, with unseasonably warm temperatures reaching into the 90s in some areas.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Tuesday ranged from a low of 27 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 102 degrees at San Fernando, Calif.
