Cold and wet weather is expected to remain in the eastern third of the country Sunday.
Significant snow was to fall in the Great Lakes, diminishing later in the day to snow showers as even colder air settled in.
Significant snow was also expected to spread through New England as the storm system moved east.
A line of rain was moving steadily through the Southeast toward the Southeast Coast.
The rest of the country was to remain dry. Unseasonably warm temperatures were expected along coastal areas and the Southwest. This will have been a week of warm temperatures and dry conditions for many areas that need precipitation.
Temperatures were to be in the 20s and 30s in the Northeast; 40s, 50s and 60s in the Southeast; 20s and 30s in the Upper Midwest; 40s and 50s for the most part in the Northwest; and 70s and 80s in the Southwest.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Saturday ranged from a low of minus 39 degrees at Clayton Lake, Maine, to a high of 84 degrees at San Fernando, Calif.
