The Nation's Weather 08.22.08

By WEATHER UNDERGROUND

Tropical Storm Fay was expected to weaken to a tropical depression Friday evening as it moved westward across northern Florida. There was a possibility of it moving farther south than predicted by models and into the northeast Gulf of Mexico. The storm was to continue bringing thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds to northern Florida and southern Georgia. The region was at risk for flooding.

Just west of Fay, storms were expected in the Lower Mississippi Valley and were to extend northward into the Upper Mississippi Valley. Showers and possible thunderstorms were expected in states along the Mississippi River and the Upper Great Lakes region.

Meanwhile, stormy weather in the Northwest was to trek eastward. Showers and thunderstorms were forecast for western Montana and North Dakota.

The Pacific Northwest was to see showers early Friday morning, but remain dry for the rest of the day.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from 35 degrees at Kremmling, Colo., to 116 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
