Strong winds and high seas were expected to lash the Gulf Coast Monday as Tropical Storm Edouard gains strength and moves toward an expected landfall Tuesday in Texas.
High pressure was to continue to hold strong in the nation's midsection and temperatures in the region were expected to continue to soar. Heat indexes throughout the southern Plains would likely rise past the 100 degree mark.
Rain was forecast for much of the Northern Plains with thunderstorms likely in the Dakotas. Thunderstorms also were forecast for the Rockies.
In the Northeast, rain was expected throughout New England.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Meacham, Ore., to a high of 109 degrees at Ardmore, Okla.
