The Nation's Weather 01.04.09

Snow was to fall in the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes on Sunday morning.

Southern Wisconsin, Michigan, and parts of the Ohio Valley were to get a mixture of rain, snow, and freezing rain.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected in the Southeast. The precipitation was to gradually creep into the Appalachian Mountains as the day progressed.

Late in the day, another major Pacific storm was to slam into the Northwest. The storm was expected to once again spread heavy rain and high elevation snow from the Cascades through the Intermountain West. It was to progress eastward and southward on Monday.

Some organized rain and snow was to fall through the Four Corners Region.

Temperatures were to rise into the 20s and 30s in the Northeast; 60s and 70s in the Southeast; single digits and 10s in the Northern Plains; and 30s and 40s in the Northwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Friday ranged from a low of minus 30 degrees at Havre, Mont., to a high of 88 degrees at Cotulla, Texas.
